Happy New Years!

Moziro sincerely hopes you have an amazing 2012.  Taste lots of wonderful flavours, see mindblowing sights and hang with unpretentous, inspiring people.

We will be closed Sunday Jan 1, and Monday Jan 2 (for the most part. I might be in roasting on Monday if you’re in a pinch).

Shawnigan the Hub!

Recently had a birthday party at Moziro Cafe in Shawnigan: my daughters.

It was great!  We took in a movie at the local museum in town where they loaned us their theatre for a couple hours.  My daughter, her family and her friends piled in and we watched Mr. Popper’s Penguins.  Super cool little theatre and a truly great experience.
As soon as the show was over we headed to Moziro where we played charades, ate chocolate and gobbled up some food from the Village Chippery. The twelve year old girls started screaming when they saw the limo pull up outside and for a moment thought the cast of Glee might step out to join the fun.  I think they were even more excited when they realized it was for them.  Not enough room in the Honda Fit for all eight kids so the limo was really the best option.  I think it blew a few minds.  The girls loved it.  And it felt good to support a few local businesses.

I can’t stress that enough.  Let’s avoid the big stores as best we can this season folks.  I know it’s hard, and you might catch me in one making some last second purchases.  But please, do your best.  Small business is so important to cities, towns and rural life.

The “C” word

It’s still November but that dreaded “C” word keeps sneaking into conversations.

Check out the shop for what just might be gift with the least risk of disappointing: chocolate.  Jenn’s been dipping and cooking and pouring her little heart out these days so get in here and enjoy.

November Blues

So the regional elections in BC are over.  We had our referendum and said NO to the Eco-Depot that would have displaced farm animals (squirrels) and crops (lichen) from their god-given agricultural home.  It’s okay, I’m not bitter.  The community showed a lot of fire in it’s support for and appeals against.  It was nice to see that kind of energy.

The shop is busy these days as the rain pours down and winds howl.  November is generally pretty gray and gusty.  Plenty of folk coming in looking for warm, comforting drinks.
Some favorites these days are:

Eggnog Latte, of course.  This one is a classic but we do cut the egg not with some milk so it’ll look purdy.

Sweet-Cin. Something new devised by ME.  Rich, sweet and spicey latte style.  Soooo good.

Hot Apple Cider. Coming soon.

stay tuned for some images of these drinks…

Election day in BC

Saturday marks election day in BC’s regional districts and municipalities. Exciting for some: not for most.
They call Moziro Town Hall in Shawnigan Lake because it seems to be where lots of people come to respectfully engage in political banter… and occasionally verbally rip each other to pieces. It is with mixed feelings that I stand idly by keep my opinion to myself. I can only add an extra shot of espresso… not logic.
The Eco-Depot debate rages on in our little town and it’s hard to know what will happen. Opposing views on the subject can be found by the local authorities and local campaigners.
